Film Society Meeting Tonight!

The Farmington Film Society will be meeting tonight at 6 PM. To prepare for our discussion of the film check out some of the topics we covered when we read the book in June at the Farmington Book Club!

  1. This was a pretty good adaptation. I really liked Leo as Jay Gatsby. I did think Mia Farrow was much better as the shallow and mindless, Daisey. Nobody does mean, rotten, b@$t@rd like Bruce Dern, so I'll have to go with him for Tom.
I had the advantage of having just read the book for book club, which stimulated me to watch the 1974 version right afterward, so I was primed to see this. I was not put off by the anachronistic music, but did think that some of the missing parts of this movie played very strong in the 74 version, and were very critical scenes in the book. So I was disappointed that we didn't get to see those scenes. All in all, a very pleasurable experience, made even better by the conversation following. These Film Society meetings are a real treat for film buffs, as we get to have serious conversations about different aspects of the film afterward. The conversations are always rich, and they ultimately lead to a better understanding of the film. I am eager to see the next film, and discuss it afterward.
